Tesla Model S and Model X
With a Tesla Model S or Model X the quickest way to charge at Fastned is to use the Tesla CHAdeMO adapter. With this adapter you can charge up to 50 kW with the CHAdeMO plug. You can add 100 km of range in 25-30 minutes (depending on the exact model). All Fastned stations are equipped with a CHAdeMO adapter.
This is how the CHAdeMO-adapter works:
1. The adapter is placed next to the charger
2. First connect the adapter to the CHAdeMO plug at the end of the cable
3. Insert the adapter with the CHAdeMO plug attached in the car
Note: you do not require your own charge cable!
When charging doesn't work at first, please unlock the adapter from the car and repeat aforementioned actions.
At station Lageveen you can find an older charger model, whereby you need to perform an extra step in order to disconnect: press the black button on top of the CHAdeMO connector and simultaneously push down the black lever underneath the connector.
If the adapter is in use, you can also charge using the AC-plug, but this will be slower. The charge speed with AC-charging is 11 kW (about 50 km/h) with a single-charger and 22 kW (about 100 km/h) with a duo-charger. Please ensure that you insert the plug properly.
What to do in case of problems?
Some charging will not start even though everything is connected properly. The charger can display a message like "Ensure the vehicle is switched off". In that case it can help to reset the Tesla. Remove the cable and adapter first, en close the chargeport. Subsequently press the brake pedal to reset the vehicle. Then follow the procedure again to start charging.
In exceptional cases the adapter does not seem to fit your Tesla, and it looks like it is being blocked by the chargeport. In that case, first close your chargeport and lock your car. After that, unlock your car, plug in the adapter again and start charging.
If you have an old Model S 60 kWh then you need to check if Supercharging is enabled because this feature has to be activated seperately. Without this feature you cannot use the adapter unfortunately.
The AC plug of our chargers does not fit the Tesla Roadster. You can use your own charging cable at 8 of our older stations, since these stations have one charger with an outlet that allows you to use your own cable.
Note: there are (self-built) adapters in circulation that can be plugged onto a fixed AC cable of our chargers to allow a Roader to charge anyway. It is absolutely not allowed to use self-built or non CE-certified adapters at our fixed AC-cables! This is very dangerous and can lead to damage of our fixed AC-cables, and unsafe situations for users of our stations.
The following 8 stations can be used to charge your Tesla Roadster with your own cable: Lokkant, Hondsiep, Geulenkamp, Het Veen, Bornheim, Lageveen, Panjerd, Vundelaar.
How to find the fast charging stations of Fastned?
In the screen of your Tesla Model S or Model X you can use the search keyword 'Fastned' optionally followed by a city name. You will see which stations are nearby.
